Perry is she is Chicago native who was birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two episodes in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. However, her parents didn't want her to perform until she turned an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry said that she was too timid to perform during high school, but started doing shows in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she got small roles on shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness brought Perry back to California which was where theatre jobs were readily available. She appeared on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. Perry was in the show with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry was in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, she played a recurring role on The ABC political thriller Scandal with her father. That same year she portrayed a child character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother in a youthful version. The role was selected via auditions though she had a close association with it.
